Calcifying Fibrous Tumor in the Rectum

چکیده
A 41-year-old woman was referred to our hospital because of a rectal tumor detected incidentally by colonoscopy at another hospital. Colonoscopy revealed a submucosal tumor with slightly erythematous surface in the rectum (Figure 1). Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) showed a homogeneous hypoechoic lesion measuring 14 mm in diameter with shadowing consistent with calcification. Continuity between the tumor and the muscularis layer was suggested (Figure 2). Due to suspected gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), laparoscopic high anterior resection was peformed. The tumor located in the muscularis layer consisted of spindle-shaped cells with hyalinized fibrocollagenous tissue accompanied by psammomatous calcification and multifocal lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate (Figure 3). Immunohistochemistry showed that the spindle-shaped cells were focally positive for a-SMA (Figure 4), whereas they were negative for CD34, S100, c-kit, and DOG1. The tumor was diagnosed as a calcifying fibrous tumor (CFT).

Gastric Calcifying Fibrous Tumor Resembling Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor: A Case Report
Calcifying fibrous tumor (CFT) is a rare mesenchymal tumor, affecting children and young adults with a predilection for the soft tissue and the abdominal cavity. CFT of the tubular gastrointestinal tract is very rare with less than 20 cases of gastric CFTs reported in English literature. This benign hypocellular fibrosclerotic calcifying lesion can resemble other spindle cell tumors particularl...
متن کاملCalcifying fibrous tumor presenting as rectal submucosal tumor: first case reported in rectum
Calcifying fibrous tumor (CFT) is a recently recognized rare benign lesion characterized by dense hyalinized collagenous tissue with interspersed spindle cells and a lymphoplasmocytic infiltrate. Calcification is the hallmark of CFT and may present in the form of psammomatous bodies or dystrophic calcifications. CFT of the intestinal tract is uncommon and rectal CFT has never been reported. Rec...

Dear Editor-in-Chief Pilomatrixoma is a benign tumor of hair follicle first described as calcifying epithelium (1). It accounts for 1% of all the benign skin tumors (2). It is a slow-growing, firm, dermal or subcutaneous neoplasm, usually measuring fewer than 3 cm in diameter. Pilomatricomas are considered benign; rarely recur after surgical excisi...

Introduction: calcifying fibrous tumor (cFt) is a rare, benign soft tissue tumor of unknown etiology. Previously reported in the subcutaneous and deep tissues of the extremities and trunk, sporadic accounts of intra-abdominal cFts associated with the peritoneum, mesentery and bowel have recently arose. case report: We present a previously unreported entity of a free-floating intra-abdominal pre...
متن کاملCalcifying fibrous tumor: a case report.
Calcifying fibrous tumors are rarely seen and affect mostly children and young adults. A 21-year-old man presented with multiple palpable masses in the area from the right inguinal region to the anteromedial thigh. We performed a diagnostic excisional biopsy. Histopathologically, it was composed of fibroblasts, psammoma bodies, dystrophic calcifications and foci of mononuclear inflammatory cell...
